There is a copious amount of research surrounding stress. Data has shown that moving ranks higher than other stressors such as divorce or a death in the family. It is important to consider that oftentimes moving takes place in conjunction with additional life changes, which can intensify the stress level associated with moving. Are you stressed already just reading about this? Don't worry! We put together some tools and tips designed to have an organized move and reduce your moving stress. You may even have some fun along the way.

Here are my favorite moving organization tips:

Take Photos

You may be wondering how photos have anything to do with moving. I promise that photos will reduce your stress. Here's how:

  • Take photos of furniture disassembly so that you can easily reassemble in your new home.
  • Photos of electronic set up are helpful, also.
  • If you are using a moving company, pre-move photos will support your claim in the event that anything is damaged.

Forward Your Mail

Don't be that person who is pulling out of the driveway for the last time thinking, "Oh no! I forgot to forward my mail." Complete the mail forwarding paperwork early. It may take the post office up to a month to process it, so leave plenty of time.

Turn On Your Utilities

Does the thought of having no internet send you into an immediate panic? If so, handle this annoying formality early. Electricity and water are also important, so don't forget about those utilities. It is better to turn them on early than arrive at your new place and be left in the dark...literally.

Stay Organized with a Printable Moving Checklist

There is no need to reinvent the wheel when it comes to moving. Many have moved before you and have thankfully graced us with their wisdom. Our favorite tool is the printable Moving Binder. It is 33 pages of heaven sent guidance on how to organize for a move. If you love checklists and want a stress-free move, these moving planner printables is the tool to make it happen.

Organize and Label

While it may be tempting to throw everything into boxes and deal with it later, that is not ideal. Taking time to organize your belongings by category and room and label them appropriately makes for a seamless move. Your first week in your home will feel so much better when you can easily find your essentials.

Hire Professionals

If you have the means, consider hiring professionals. There is no shame in needing help. Professional movers can help you pack, lift, and haul the contents of your home faster and safer.

Prepare a Moving Day Essentials Box

When things get hectic and most of your life is packed into boxes, you will be grateful to have your moving day essentials box. Pack things you use on a daily basis, such as:

  • Phone and laptop charger
  • Toiletries
  • Important documents
  • Medication
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Trash bags
  • Bottled water

Your moving day essentials box will ease the stress of settling in after a long day of moving.

Follow these stress-free moving organization tips and use your printable moving day binder and soon this will be a distant memory. Congrats on your new home and the new adventures that await!
